Siba Mtongana, a South African celebrity chef and the host of “Siba’s Table” Food Network show, is touring the U.S. Oct. 11-26 as the newly appointed Global Impact Ambassador for Stop Hunger Now.
In recognition of World Food Day on Oct. 16, Siba will work to raise awareness of the issues of world hunger during the “How We Rise” tour. The two week tour includes media appearances and presentations with corporate partners in Raleigh, New York, Atlanta, San Francisco and Las Vegas.
Siba’s first stop is in Raleigh, NC, the global headquarters for Stop Hunger Now. She will attend a meal packaging event on Oct. 13 at the MetLife Global Technology Campus in Cary. Around the country,500 MetLife employees will package approximately 200,000 meals in eight locations in recognition of World Food Day.
This past July, Siba served as the Global Ambassador for Global Mandela Day for Stop Hunger Now and worked alongside Graca Machel, Nelson Mandela’s wife, who is the Chief Patron of the organization in South Africa. Siba helped pack over 3.3 million meals in South Africa during the campaign. The food directly benefits young children from impoverished backgrounds suffering from hunger and malnutrition in South Africa and across the world.
Stop Hunger Now CEO Rod Brooks says that during the campaign in South Africa, Siba
shared that she was fortunate as a child to receive food at a school that had been donated by caring individuals. “As a Global Impact Ambassador for Stop Hunger Now, Siba is paying that kindness forward by encouraging her many followers to get involved with Stop Hunger Now’s efforts to end hunger in our lifetime. She is truly a champion!”
Siba is well-known for her Food Network show Siba’s Table, which broadcasts in more than 130 countries around the globe. When Siba’s Table made its debut in the U.S. in April 2014, Siba became the first South African to have her own TV show with an American broadcast on the Cooking Channel – introducing Siba to more than 60 million homes in the U.S. In 2014, she made Oprah Magazine’s prestigious “O Power List” of 21 African women rocking the world. Siba is passionate about youth, women and children–especially those who suffer from poverty and hunger.
Siba says she is just as passionate about food as she is passionate about improving other people’s lives. “I’m determined to use my academic background in Food Science and Nutrition and global influence to help tackle the scourge of hunger and malnutrition in South Africa and across the world,” she said. The award winning food writer recently released her debut cookbook, My Table.
